Process Design Course

In this project, I was asked to support the efforts of the quality engineers at Nextel while they designed a process improvement model that would later become ISO9000 compliant. Using my skills and experience executing and teaching process improvement and process redesign, I helped the engineers fine tune their model and flush out their documentation and tools.
During this process, I created the Process Design Course, ITTR-Engr-3300. The goals of this three-day classroom course were to help Nextel staff:

  • To understand the value of the PDM and how it fits into Engineering and Operations (E&O).
  • To be E&O Process Engineers (PE) capable of conducting the design of standard E&O processes using the E&O Process Design Methodology (PDM).

In order to successfully deliver this course and enable the staff to practice what they learned, I created a manual for the PDM. The manual was design as both an instructional aid for in-class work and a guide that could be used after course completion. Using my experience with facilitation, I added a section on facilitation tools and techniques designed to help the staff take action.
