As a PEC, Inc. employee, I was asked to design, develop, and deliver a JAD workshop for the Administrative Office of the US Courts' Project Management Education Series. The JAD (Joint Application Development ) techniques was developed by IBM in the late 1970’s. Since then, it has been considered to be one of the “best practices” for:
- Defining and planning a project
- Identifying requirements
- Getting buy-in on design
- Planning the implementation process
- Resolving issues in a timely manner
A goal of the workshop was to convey that the JAD technique is a management process. It isn’t a stand alone event someone says needs to happen. It is a technique used to make things happen. The workshop covered:
- Basics:
- What – What is the JAD technique?
- Why – Why use it?
- Who – Who should participate?
- Application:
- When – When should JAD be used?
- How – How is a JAD session conducted?
- Summary – How does it all come together?
